Search and rescue training schedule in Indian Cove Area, Joshua Tree National Park

Search and rescue teams will be training on many rock crags in the Indian Cove Area this weekend.

Joshua Tree National Park staff will be working with various search and rescue units from the western United States to accomplish technical training on rock rescue in the Indian Cove area on March 5, 2022. Many of the climbing areas adjacent to the Group Campsites and the Indian Cove Amphitheater will be occupied by SAR teams. Those crags will not be available for recreational climbers and guides. Please consider using other areas of the park for climbing purposes on March 5, 2022.

Joshua Tree National Park Search & Rescue (JOSAR) was established in the 1990s to respond to emergencies, such as climber falls, missing hikers, and overdue parties. Due to the complexity and frequency of incidents, members are required to be highly trained and skilled in a variety of functions, including search, technical, tracking, and K9. Joshua Tree National Park Search & Rescue is comprised of highly trained staff and volunteers who are on call around the clock and ready to respond to a variety of incidents.
