This Saturday, October 20, the doors formally open to the Dr. James Buckner Luckie Study Center at Joshua Tree National Park. The study center was made possible through a generous donation of Susan Luckie Riley’s family home with the purpose of continuing Ms. Luckie’s life long study of desert ecology and her passion for land conservation. The center is located within the border of the park and provides a logistical and operational base for scientists conducting research in the Colorado and Mojave Deserts.
The mission of the center is to foster and promote the principles and achievements of Susan Luckie Riley and her father, Dr. James Buckner Riley, while providing a field station for research and learning. The center will work in partnership with academic, non-profit and other professional organizations. The ribbon cutting event and opening celebration is from 4 pm to 7 pm and the public is invited.
