At 4:57 pm, park staff and members of Joshua Tree Search and Rescue mobilized along the 49 Palms Oasis trail in response to a report of a lost hiker. He had become separated from his group and had gone off trail.

The subject was located at 7:33 pm and was hiked out by responders. He was released with no injuries.

Dangerously hot temperatures are normal at this time of year. Highs can be well over 100°F (38°C). Avoid activity during the hot daytime hours. Protect yourself from the sun. Bring at least two gallons of water per person, and eat salty snacks. Flash floods are a possibility during monsoon season.  Travelers should pay close attention to local weather reports for current updates on storm and flash flood warnings.
