Joshua Tree National Park, Twentynine Palms, CA –

In honor of the centennial, the National Trust for Historic Preservation has partnered with American Express and National Geographic to award $2M in grants. While this is not the first year the grants have been offered, it is the first year they are being awarded to national parks. Joshua Tree National Park has made it through the first round of the selection and will now compete with a group of twenty other parks and projects.

If Joshua Tree receives the grant, the park would work in partnership with HistoriCorps, preservation non-profit based in Denver, CO to stabilize and rehabilitate the main house at Keys Ranch as well and address deterioration of the building's exterior. Additional rehab in the kitchen and living room areas would allow tours to safely enter and view the interior of the ranch house. The public will decide who receives the funding through on-line voting.
