Park officials announced that Fortynine Palms Oasis Trail will be closed from sunset on Tuesday, September 25 until noon on Wednesday, September 26. Aerial search operations by helicopter will be active in the area as a continuation of the Miller search. The superintendent’s closure is authorized by Title 36 CFR, Section 1.5 (a) (1). Update: Due to the extensive area that needed to be searched, the closure is extended through noon, Thursday, September 27.

Canadian citizen, Paul Miller was last seen on July 14 headed to Fortynine Palms Oasis. His rental vehicle was found in the parking lot of the trailhead, however an extensive search of the area failed to locate him or any sign. Park staff and volunteers continue to search for Mr. Miller. Anyone having any information about the subject should call 760 367-5507.
