TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif.– Firefighters continue to make progress on suppression and containment of the Eureka Fire. The fire has burned a total of 214 acres and is at 85% containment. The Black Rock Interagency Fire Crew, comprised of National Park Service and Bureau of Land Managment Firefighters, are currently managing operations. Crews are focused on extinguishing remaining hot spots and on suppression repair, minimizing resource damage to several key species in the footprint area. The weather continues to be favorable with low winds and higher humidity. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The temporary closures within the affected areas of the park are now open:
- Lower Covington Flats Road and La Contenta within the Park boundary.
- Backcountry camping in the zones covering Black Rock, Covington, Quail Wash, and Juniper.
- California Riding and Hiking Trail starting in Black Rock
- Creosote/Bigfoot Trail starting off Park Blvd in the park.
