HARPERS FERRY, W.Va – Harpers Ferry National Historical Park will conduct a study this summer to assess congestion and parking issues at the Train Station lot in Lower Town. A study team will collect data to understand current traffic patterns and recommend options for alleviating congestion in and around the parking lot. Amtrak travelers and MARC commuters use the lot and many visitors to the national park and town of Harpers Ferry also seek parking at this location.

In June and July, two or three people from the team will collect anonymous information about the number of vehicles entering the lot, the length of stay for vehicles using the lot and the number of vehicles unable to find parking.

The study is ongoing and the park will provide awareness of the study to the local community. A research team from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Volpe Center will assist the National Park Service team in collecting and evaluating data.

For more information about the parking study, please contact Ryan Levins at 304-535-6232.
