Construction work on the Gros Ventre Roundabout and other safety improvements along U.S. Highway 26/89/191 in the southern end of Grand Teton National Park is progressing. Current work includes paving the connection of the roundabout to the Gros Ventre Road, as well as creating the eastern splitter island that will be used by pathway users to safely cross the Gros Ventre Road.

The Gros Ventre Road from the junction with U.S. Highway 26/89/191 to the Gros Ventre Campground will be closed to all vehicle traffic and users from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25 through Thursday, September 27. There will also be up-to 15-minute daytime traffic delays on the Gros Ventre Road before 9 a.m. and after 3 p.m. during this time. Visitors and local residents who wish to access the community of Kelly, Gros Ventre Campground, or adjacent areas are encouraged to use the Antelope Flats Road detour during this time. Roadside signs in the area will communicate these changes and are updated on a daily basis.

On weekdays from Monday, September 24 through Friday, October 5, travelers in the construction area should expect sporadic daytime delays exceeding 15 minutes. Construction work during this time will include work on Sagebrush Drive and south of the roundabout.

After October 5, travelers on U.S. Highway 26/89/191 should plan for 15-minute daytime delays and 30-minute nighttime delays as construction continues.  These delays are in addition to any that may be encountered with typical traffic levels.

The roundabout and safety improvement project is planned to be completed by the end of November. Travelers should respect the speed limit in the area, be alert to changing conditions and follow the directional signing.

Cyclists and pathway users in the southern area of the park are advised that a pathway closure between the southern and northern portions of the Gros Ventre Roundabout is currently ongoing. During this pathway closure, experienced pathway users may travel along the highway on the road shoulder and through the partial roundabout.

Restrictions are currently in place for oversized vehicles greater than 10 feet wide and more than 81 feet in length on U. S. Highway 26/89/191. For more information about this load restriction visit http://www.wyoroad.info.

The construction schedule is subject to change due to weather conditions and other factors. Updates will be communicated via roadside signs, park road information line (307.739.3682), park website (www.nps.gov/grte), and park social media (@GrandTetonNPS on Facebook and Twitter).
