GATLINBURG, Tenn.—Visitors should prepare for planned road construction and maintenance projects in Great Smoky Mountains National Park next week (Sept. 23-27).

Park maintenance crews will implement temporary, single-lane closures along the north- and southbound Spur between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge from Sept. 23 through Sept. 26. Crews will mow, clean ditches, remove fallen trees and branches, pick up litter and repair guardrails. The single-lane closures will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

The park will close River Road from the boundary in Gatlinburg to the intersection of Newfound Gap Road/US Highway 441 from the evening of Sept. 25, through the morning of Sept. 26, and the evening of Sept. 26, through the morning of Sept. 27. The closure will be in effect from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. This work is part of the Great American Outdoors Act funded rehabilitation of the first two miles of Newfound Gap Road near Gatlinburg.

Drivers should reduce speeds, drive with extra caution and anticipate delays during road construction.
