MARIN COUNTY, Calif. — Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) is seeking public comment on a proposal to increase fees for overnight camping and day use reservations at Kirby Cove and Bicentennial campgrounds located in the Marin Headlands. Increased fees would support the expansion of an online reservation system, new campground amenities and other projects that have a direct visitor benefit.
This is the first proposed camping fee increase since fees began at Kirby Cove campground in 1997. The prices are in alignment with fees charged at similar campgrounds throughout California. At Bicentennial campground, the new amenities supported by the fee increase would include the installation of charcoal fire grills and a vault toilet. The National Park Service’s online reservation system, www.recreation.gov, would also be expanded to include camping reservations at Bicentennial campground. Increased fees at Kirby Cove would support ongoing campground operations.
Camping fees at Kirby Cove would increase from $25 to $30 while day use fees would increase from $35 to $45. Camping fees at Bicentennial campground would increase from $0 to $20. Eighty (80) percent of campground revenues are retained by GGNRA and are allocated to projects that directly benefit visitor experience.
A summary of the proposed changes is available for review and public comment on the NPS Planning website (http://parkplanning.nps.gov/p
