MILL VALLEY, CA —A new opportunity is on the horizon as Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) invites interested parties to submit a proposal for the operation of food and beverage and retail services at Muir Woods National Monument (Muir Woods).
“Muir Woods is an inspiring old-growth redwood forest, attracting visitors from the local community and from around the world,” said Laura E. Joss, GGNRA’s general superintendent. “We look forward to the start of a new contract and continued efforts to provide a memorable national park experience to visitors at this iconic park site.”
The draft contract requires a small expansion and redesign of the food and beverage area, with a corresponding reduction in retail space. Furthermore, the draft contract builds upon GGNRA and Bay Area values of sustainability, requiring the future concessioner to source from local farms and food vendors, offer sustainable retail products, and follow other sustainable business practices. The duration of the concession contract is 10 years, with an estimated effective date of October 1, 2020.
Muir Woods is a popular destination for local, national, and international visitors alike, and has averaged more than one million visitors annually in the past five years. In early 2018, GGNRA implemented a parking and shuttle reservation system at Muir Woods to manage peak visitation periods and reduce traffic congestion, safety hazards, and impacts on the resource due to overcrowding.
Interested parties are invited to a site visit for an opportunity to see the existing operations in action, including back-of-house operations. Information on the site visit, including the date and RSVP information are available on the National Park Service Commercial website.
The prospectus and additional information are no longer available.
