WEST GLACIER, MONT. – Officials at Glacier National Park report that the alpine portion of the Going-to-the-Sun Road (Sun Road) remains temporarily closed due to winter weather. The temporary closure is currently from Big Bend to Jackson Glacier Overlook. Visitors can still travel 28 miles from West Glacier to Big Bend and 13.5 miles from St. Mary to Jackson Glacier Overlook.

As soon as conditions permit, officials will reopen most of the Sun Road. However, a short 2.5 mile segment between Siyeh Bend and Logan Pass will remain closed due to road construction. Therefore, when weather conditions improve, visitors will be able to travel to Logan Pass from West Glacier and 15.5 miles to Siyeh Bend from St. Mary.

Throughout the weekend, visitors can check current road conditions on the park’s Web site at: https://www.nps.gov/applications/glac/roadstatus/roadstatus.cfm. Visitors can also call the Apgar Visitor Center, open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 406-888-7939 for a road update.

Conditions are also available by calling 511, the Montana Department of Transportation Traveler Information System. If your phone does not support 511, call 1-800-226-7623. Both numbers are toll-free. Select "Glacier Park Tourist Information" from the main menu to hear Glacier’s road report. Both the Web site and 511 are updated as soon as conditions change.

For additional information on the Sun Road and Glacier National Park, visit the park’s Web site at www.nps.gov/glac or call 406-888-7800.
