WEST GLACIER, Mont. [September 12, 2024] – The Going-to-the-Sun Road was reopened this morning after park officials made the proactive decision to close it at 9 pm on September 11 due to forecasted moderate to heavy rain showers and thunderstorms that made the area susceptible to mudslides and falling rock.
Park rangers accessed the roadway and after evaluating today's weather forecast, opened the road around 8 am this morning. The road was closed for about 12-hours.
Visitors are encouraged to prepare for inclement weather if they plan to travel to the park this week. Check the weather forecast and park road status before you visit, dress for varying degrees of weather, carry the ten essential emergency items, and be on alert for potential hazards on roadways and trails.
