West Glacier, MTGlacier National Park is midway through a parkwide pavement preservation effort. Pavement preservation -- including chip seal, slurry seal, microseal, or fog seal -- extends pavement life and saves in costly rehabilitation efforts.

To minimize the total time of the project and to provide times when construction crews can work with less traffic congestion, the park has approved night work between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. on Going-to-the-Sun Road between Avalanche Creek and Siyeh Bend. Waits of 30 to 60 minutes are possible, with the longest waits anticipated to occur between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. The public should plan for these delays if visiting the park very late or very early.

So far this year, crews have completed areas on the west side of the Going-to-the-Sun Road up to the Loop, including Apgar Village, Lake McDonald Lodge, Avalanche Creek, and other areas. On the east side of the Going-to-the-Sun Road, work is expected to be complete at the end of this week to Logan Pass, including the Rising Sun developed area. The Logan Pass parking lot and the Swiftcurrent area of Many Glacier are complete. Crews may still be working in some of the above areas finalizing or retouching striping.

A portion of Camas Road and Huckleberry Mountain Road and Chief Mountain Road are upcoming. Work between the Loop and Logan Pass is ongoing, and will occur only at night during July and August.

The park continues to anticipate a possible complete closure both day and night on the west side of the Going-to-the-Sun Road between Avalanche Creek and Logan Pass from September 16-29 to facilitate work in this area. Logan Pass will remain accessible through the St. Mary Entrance Station.
