West Glacier, MT – Artist Jamie McHugh joins Glacier National Park for the last artistic residency of the summer season.
McHugh is a multi-disciplinary artist and movement specialist who focuses on the interplay between the inner landscape of the human body and the outer landscape – or larger body – of the natural world. His photographic and video work, primarily generated on the northern California coast, centers on the varying forms, qualities and movements of water to create inner coherence in the viewer.
Three public programs will be offered during his residency, beginning with an artist Meet and Greet on Thursday, October 11th from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm at the Montana House in Apgar Village, MT.
McHugh will offer two 90-minute experiential sessions on October 16 and 25, from 5-6:30pm at the West Glacier Community Building. The focus of the sessions will be to connect self and environment through sensory awareness, aesthetic appreciation and body-based mindfulness practices. These contemplative activities - of contacting, mirroring and responding in overt and subtle ways are designed to open the door to a creative form of active engagement with the natural world.
More about McHugh’s work can be found at www.naturebeingart.org and www.somaticexpression.com. He also has a “Breathing Room Series” on YouTube.
