COLONIAL BEACH, Va. —George Washington Birthplace National Monument invites you to celebrate National Trails Day by learning more about the historic trails, heritage areas, and community organizations connected by the Potomac River.On Saturday, June 1st, staff from seven different organizations will be on hand in the park’s Memorial Area from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. offering a variety of information and family-friendly activities. Special presentations will also be offered at the park’s visitor center.
Participating organizations include the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail, Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail, Star-Spangled Banner National Historic Trail, Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail, The Potomac Riverkeeper Network, Northern Neck National Heritage Area, and the Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin.
From colonial voyages to civil war battlefields, the Potomac River flows through the heart of American history. National Historic Trails along the Potomac River offer opportunities for the public to retrace past events through historic sites, heritage areas, trail segments, and waterways. National Trails Day® is a nationwide event promoting advocacy and trail service. Join thousands of people around the country as they maintain, clean up and discover their local public lands and trails.
