Fossil Butte Announces Summer Night Sky Series

Kemmerer, WY – Fossil Butte National Monument will be offering a three-part night sky event series over the summer. Each event will start at 8:00pm in the Visitor Center with a short presentation followed by the specialized activity for the night. All programs will end at 11:00pm, although people are free to come and go as they please. The schedule will be as follows:

July 14th: Star Viewing Party with guest speaker Paul Ricketts from the University of Utah. Presentation by Ricketts followed by a guided tour of the stars.

July 28th: Full Moon Walk on the Nature Trail. Join a ranger for a sunset hike up the nature trail, a talk at the top, and a walk down in the moonlight

August 11th: Perseid Meteor Shower Viewing. After a short presentation, caravan up the scenic drive to Cundick Ridge. A short walk out to a viewing location

There is no cost for any of the programs, and all are family friendly. Participants should dress for the weather and bring bug spray, water, chairs, and flashlights (for the walk). Binoculars and telescopes are encouraged for the viewing events.
