NPS and Local Emergency Crews Respond to Small Structural Fire in Park

At 2:24 on Friday, July 5, the NPS Emergency Communications Center received a report through Pike County 911 of a structure fire on the grounds of the Cliff Park Inn and Golf Course that ultimately destroyed one building. The historic inn was not damaged. 

The building that burned was built in 1910 and was once used as a caretaker’s cottage. The building was vacant and in poor condition and had not been in use for several years. "While the structure is a total loss,” said Superintendent Doyle Sapp, “we are extremely grateful for the quick response from local emergency responders, including Westfall Fire Department, Milford Fire Department, Delaware Township Fire Department, Dingman Township Fire Department, Dingman Township Ambulance, and Montague (NJ) Fire Department who extinguished the blaze quickly and before it could spread to other areas." NPS Wildland Fire crews also assisted in ensuring that this structure fire did not spread into grassy and wooded areas nearby. Delaware Township Ambulance also set a crew to the scene. 

The cause of the fire is unknown and is under investigation by the NPS and Pennsylvania State Police. 

The NPS is currently in negotiations for a lease on the Cliff Park property that includes the historic inn, golf course, and other buildings.
