BUSHKILL, PA- The Delaware River and several roads and facilities within Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area are currently closed due to hazards presented by the heavy rain and high winds experienced overnight and into today. Hazards include fallen and falling trees and limbs, high water, and roadway flooding. Those visiting or traveling through the park should exercise caution while driving or recreating.  Check the park's website and social media platforms for updates.

The following road closures are in effect until further notice:

  • In PA, River Road is closed between Hialeah Picnic Area and Park Headquarters.
  • In NJ, Old Mine Road is closed between Millbrook Village and the Worthington State Forest boundary. Blue Mountain Lakes Road is also closed.
  • Please note: US Route 209 remains open; however, motorists should exercise caution due to water on the roadway from mountainside runoff, particularly around mile marker 6 near the Eshback farm and river access and near streams and stream crossings.

The Delaware River and all access points are closed in anticipation of rapidly rising river levels. The river has been running at just under 8 feet at the Montague, NJ gauge for several days (2 to 3 feet higher than normal) and was hovering around the 10-foot mark this morning. Based on current predictions, the river will continue to rise before cresting at 18.5 feet on Tuesday morning.  For the safety of the public and employees, the Delaware River within the park is closed to all users any time the river reaches 15 feet, however, hazards are greatly increased this time of year due to water and air temperatures.  No river flooding is expected. Flood stage at the Montague gauge is 25 feet.

River levels can be monitored at National Weather Service Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service.
