Did you know that each year nearly 300,000 volunteers collectively contribute more than 6.5 million hours of volunteer service at our national parks? We call these volunteers in the Volunteers In Parks Program our “VIPs." They work side-by-side with our National Park Service employees in parks and programs across the nation to help preserve our nation’s most precious natural, historical, recreational, and cultural treasures.

Each year, we celebrate National Volunteer Week to recognize the contributions of our volunteers. This year's celebration takes place April 17-23, 2022

At Cumberland Island National Seashore, we are in awe of the dedicated and talented VIPs that bless us with their time and work. Since October of 2021 volunteers have given over 7,000 hours of service to maintain and improve Cumberland Island. In these short six months VIPs have restored/improved trails and boardwalks, given programs and tours, maintained buildings, greeted visitors, and so much more. We cannot thank our VIPs enough.

Please join the celebration:

  1. Thank a volunteer. Are you visiting a national park site during National Park Week? Say thank you to the volunteers you meet!
  2. Sign up to volunteer by emailing e-mail us or www.volunteer.gov to find a volunteer event near you
  3. Share your volunteer experience. Are you a proud volunteer? Share a photo and your volunteer story. Be sure to tag @National Park Service and your favorite park, and use #NPSVolunteer and #NationalParkWeek

You can make our great places better. Become a VIP and volunteer with us today

“Volunteering is service from the heart. Offering your time and talents to national parks is an outpouring of love for a greater good. This generosity of oneself reaps benefits for the volunteer, park resources, and park visitors. We are so very fortunate to have so many people care about Cumberland Island. America thanks you,” said Gary Ingram, Superintendent, Cumberland Island National Seashore and Fort Frederica National Monument.
