Several National Park Service sites are within 60 miles (97 km) of Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historical Park.

Antietam National Battlefield - This 1862 battle ended the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia's first invasion into the North. It led President Abraham Lincoln to issue the preliminary Emancipation Proclamation.

Appalachian National Scenic Trail - A famous hiking trail that follows the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains on the eastern edge of the Shenandoah Valley.

Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park - Operating for nearly 100 years, the canal was a lifeline for communities along the Potomac River. Today it endures as a popular recreational path with many historical and natural treasures.

Harpers Ferry National Historical Park - At the confluence of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers you can explore the former industrial town where John Brown raided against slavery.

Manassas National Battlefield - Two major Civil War battles were fought here just outside of the nation's capital, Washington D.C.

Monocacy National Battlefield - Outnumbered US soldiers fought gallantly along the banks of the Monocacy River in an effort to buy time for reinforcements to arrive.

Shenandoah National Park - Drive Skyline Drive to see a mountain landscape bursting with cascading waterfalls, spectacular vistas, fields of wildflowers, and quiet wooded hollows.

National Heritage Area

Shenandoah Valley Battlefields National Historic District preserves and interprets significant Civil War battlefields and related historic sites in eight Virginia counties. The Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation manages these sites. Visit museums, walk on preserved battlefields, or listen to audio tours.
