Camping

Camping in Big Thicket National Preserve is limited to backcountry camping. The preserve does not have campgrounds, though many can be found nearby.

Backcountry Camping

Backcountry camping is available with a free permit from the visitor center. Hike into the woods or paddle along a waterway to find your perfect place to camp.

Picnic Areas

Enjoy lunch in the woods! Many trailheads and day-use areas have picnic tables. Here are some recommended picnic areas—all have picnic tables, vault toilets, and no water unless otherwise stated:

 

Lodging and Restaurants

Located in southeast Texas, Big Thicket National Preserve is close to many communities offering lodging ranging from vacation rentals to hotels, as well as a variety of local restaurants. Some cities to consider include Beaumont, Kountze, Lumberton, Silsbee, and Woodville.
