Come to Fruition: Botanical Illustrations of Native Fruits, Nuts and Seeds in Biscayne National Park Gallery

The newest exhibit in Biscayne National Park’s Dante Fascell Visitor Center Gallery features 26 detailed botanical illustrations of the fruits, nuts and seeds of some of Florida’s native plants. Fruition, created by the Tropical Botanic Artists, is on display daily from 9AM-5PM through June 6. On Sunday, April 18, the park will host a virtual reception for the artists on the park’s Facebook and YouTube pages. The event will feature a gallery walk-through, a few words from each of the artists along with a little about the featured plants, a demonstration of the painstaking techniques the artists use and a short talk by Fairchild Tropic Botanic Garden Conservation Program Manager Jennifer Possley.

This exhibition of original botanical art focuses on the intriguing variety of fruits, nuts, and seeds produced by South Florida’s abundant native plant species. Plant subjects range from wildflowers and weeds to decorative shrubs and stately trees. Fruition was developed in collaboration with Biscayne National Park by the Tropical Botanic Artists, a collective established in Miami in 2006 to highlight the beauty of tropical plants through art. Its members come from all walks of life and each brings a unique viewpoint to his or her work. They share a love of the natural world and that fascination is reflected in their art. Fruition is part of the park’s Community Artists Program, started in 1997 as an outlet for the works of artists who are inspired by the beauty of Biscayne National Park. Over the years, the gallery has hosted over 60 shows featuring photography, paintings and drawings in a variety of media, fiber, clay, printmaking and sculpture. The program is made possible by the South Florida National Parks Trust.
