Bighorn Canyon Road Work Set to Begin April 1

Fort Smith, MT: Starting April 1, 2024, Bighorn Canyon roads and parking areas on both ends of the park will be under construction. There are basically three stages of the project from April into August. Milling and asphalt work, parking lots, and patching will be completed in April and May. Crack seal work will be completed in May and June. Chip seal is anticipated to be completed the first two weeks of August. Schedule variations and weekly updates be posted on our Facebook Page. The park will also put out weekly press releases.

Contractors will work Monday through Friday. The work time may be varied but will mostly be conducted between the hours of 7 AM to 8 PM. Some parking areas may be temporarily closed to allow contractors the ability to finish their work safely and efficiently. For road work, visitors should expect traffic control with one lane traffic and up to 30 minute delays.

The first two weeks of the projects, beginning April 1st will be focused on the South District of the park near Lovell, Wy. Crews will be milling the parking lot at the Lovell Visitor Center on April 1 and 2. The Visitor Center will be closed. The crew will move to the park road. They will be working near the entrance just before the Horseshoe Bend Turn. There will be traffic controls and delays.
