It is hard to believe it is time for school to start, which also means it is time for Bighorn Canyon to start to prepare for fall.

The North District of Bighorn Canyon National Recreational Area near Fort Smith, MT, remains open. The river and lake ramps and campgrounds are open. The Ok-A-Beh Marina will operate August 21 through September 13 with boat rentals and fuel available.

On the South District of Bighorn Canyon near Lovell, Wyoming, the Bighorn Canyon Visitor Center remains closed, but there are outdoor visitor center hours Wednesday through Sunday, 9 AM to 4 PM. All other South District facilities remain open.

Beginning the week of September 8, maintenance crews will be removing lake facilities at Dayboard 9, Black Canyon and Dryhead. During the week of September 14, the concession docks at Ok-A-Beh will be removed. All slip renters need to plan to have their boats off the docks by the end of the day on September 13. During the week of September 21, the floating restroom at Devil Canyon will be removed, and the concession docks at Horseshoe Bend will be removed the following week. The courtesy docks at Ok-A-Beh, Barry’s Landing and Horseshoe Bend will stay in place until the lake starts to freeze later in the year.
