Artist In Residence, Jim Schlett, will be at Bighorn Canyon from September 30 to October 14. Join Mr. Schlett at the Lovell Visitor Center from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, October 12. He will share photos and stories about his past Artist In Residence programs in seven different national parks including Whiskeytown, Catoctin Mountain, Manassas, Gettysburg, Homestead, Herbert Hoover Site and Montezuma Castle.
In 2011, after working for the U S Postal Service as an Executive in Washington D.C., Jim Schlett “refocused” on his love for photography and the National Parks. His photographs have been published in the Washington Post, Reston Magazine, Fairfax Times, Elan Magazine, annual reports, and newspapers. They have been exhibited in local galleries and art shows and have won numerous competitive awards. One of his images was displayed in the Art Takes Times Square Exhibition in New York City in June 2012. He was the Artist in Resident at the Whiskeytown National Recreation Area in northern California in 2016. Since 2018, he was selected as the Artist in Resident at several National Park Service locations: Catoctin Mountain in Maryland, Manassas National Battlefield in Virginia, Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania, Homestead National Monument in Nebraska, Montezuma Castle in Arizona, and the Herbert Hoover Historic Site in Iowa. He has exhibitions scheduled in 2020 with images of the National Parks.
Jim will be the last Artist In Residence for 2019. Notification for the 2020 application process will be posted on our Facebook page in mid-November.
