BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK, TEXAS – After 20 months of closures, the Boquillas Port of Entry within Big Bend National Park, providing access to the village of Boquillas, Coahuila, Mexico, as well as the Maderas del Carmen and Ocampo protected areas, will re-open beginning Wednesday, November 17th.

Hours of Operation:
Pedestrians will be able to access the port between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
OPEN: Wednesdays through Sundays
CLOSED: Mondays and Tuesdays.

“We are delighted to reopen the Boquillas Port of Entry, as visiting our neighbors across the river is an integral part of the Big Bend National Park experience,” said Park Superintendent Bob Krumenaker.  “We also appreciate the close collaboration with our partners at Customs and Border Protection, as this unique opportunity is only possible with both agencies working together in concert.”

At the Port of Entry, visitors will be able to cross into Mexico by foot (during low water) or by rowboat ferry (for a fee) during business hours only. This port of entry does not accommodate vehicle crossings or commercial importation of products. There is no other legal access to Mexico within Big Bend National Park.

Proper documentation is required to cross. U.S. and Canadian citizens can cross with a valid passport. Travelers should also have their COVID-19 vaccination status available. For complete information on other accepted travel documents, contact U.S. Customs and Border Protection at Presidio, TX at 432-229-3349.

The Boquillas crossing has remained closed since March 2020 as part of the nationwide U.S. Department of Homeland Security closure of the Mexico border to reduce the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

The Boquillas Port of Entry is operated cooperatively by the National Park Service and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The facility is staffed by National Park Rangers who can assist travelers with information about visiting the area.
