BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK, TX –The National Park Service is seeking applications from candidates interested in working permanently for Big Bend National Park as Public Safety Dispatchers.

Public Safety Dispatchers are the lifeline of the park and are responsible for calmly and efficiently handling calls in what is called an ‘all-hazard’ dispatch center. Park dispatchers live in the park, and coordinate responses to any kind of incidents that occur within Big Bend National Park, from search and rescue missions, to EMS calls, fires, and law enforcement incidents.

Dispatching can be an exhilarating job that is focused on helping people, and ensuring the safety of the National Park Employees and volunteers responding to help those in need. The job often goes from many things happening at once, to nothing - in a matter of minutes. Dispatchers are required to be able to multi- task, often talking on the telephone, while taking down information on a radio at the same time. Spanish language skills are highly encouraged, but not required to apply.

Public Safety Dispatchers at Big Bend National Park are permanent federal employees entitled to a full benefit package. Salaries range from a starting annual salary of $34,916 to a full performance Dispatcher making up to $56,585 annually. Permanent federal employees are eligible for medical, dental, vision coverage, a 401k plan, retirement benefits, paid vacation leave, and paid sick leave.
