Notes: He left home before the age of sixteen and went to Palma. He was of medium build and light complexion with brown eyes and black hair. He was invested with the habit at the historic Convento Grande de San Francisco on 4 September 1780. After his novitiate, vows, three years of philosophy, three years of scholastic theology and ordination, Padre Bordoy left for Querétaro. He reached Tumacácori with Padre Ramón López in mid-February of 1796, having first gone to Caborica. He and López presented Padre Gutiérrez with an order summoning him to Tubutama, where he finally went in May of 1796. Some seven months later the two Friars took a census as ordered by Carlos IV. Bordoy said that since he and López had been at Tumacácori, not a single heathen had asked to join the community. "As for the church structure," he said, "it is now split in two and there is therefore some need that a new one be built. The resources this mission has at present for that purpose are next to nil. It hardly even has fields to plant, not because these are lacking, for there are fields, but because the water to irrigate them is lacking. Thus, this year, three quarters of the wheat planted was lost for lack of water." Bordoy and López eventually became at odds with each other and López left on 29 May 1797. He was replaced by Padre Ángel alonso Prado, who wrote to his superiors just one week later, saying he was not for the missions and wanted out. Prado was still there on 30 September 1797, however, and he and Bordoy had seen to patching up the Jesuit church. By January of 1798, Padre Gutiérrez was back at Tumacácori and Padre Prado had gone. Padre Bordoy left in the late summer of 1799. Between 1802 and 1805 he served as "compañero" at Aconchi. By 1806 he was back in the Pimería Alta, assisting at Tubutama. When he returned to the College of Querétaro his health was broken. He did what he could there, playing the organ and hearing confessions, until his death. |
