For Teachers
 

Teachers' guides and resources are available to help teach about the local history, culture and environment.  The "Encounters Teacher's Resource Box" offers over 100 reference materials including books, videos, and activities.  Four teachers' guides include Encounters historical guide (4th-8th grade) , Life along the Santa Cruz River (K-3rd grade), The Santa Cruz River, its People and Environment (4th-8th grade) and Birds, People and the Santa Cruz River (7th-High School).

Our Junior Ranger Seek and Find is great for visitors of all ages, families, and school groups.  Under the direction of an adult leader, small groups of students can tour the park and learn about it while they search for and read about objects and locations shown in the Seek and find pictures.

Arizona takes its name from a ranch of the same name, meaning "the good oak tree" in Basque, established by Bernardo de Urrea in 1735 in the rugged, mountain country about forty miles southwest of Tumacácori.
