BAR HARBOR, MAINE – The water tower on the campus of the Schoodic Institute in the Schoodic District of Acadia National Park will be repainted between September 7 and September 24, 2021. Painting the water tower is part of its regular maintenance and will return it to the original pale light green color. The water tower provides potable water and fire protection to the campus. While the water tower is being repainted, a back-up water tank will serve the campus. The water tower is 90-feet tall and holds 150,000 gallons.

The Schoodic District was added to Acadia National Park in 1929. Between 1935 and 2002, the U.S. Navy operated a communications base at Schoodic Point and constructed the water tower in the 1950s. In 2002, the National Park Service acquired the navy base and converted the facilities to a research learning center operated in partnership with the Schoodic Institute.
