BAR HARBOR, MAINE – The carriage roads are open for people to enjoy the park for foot traffic only. Park rangers have removed barricades and opened up parking lots beginning on Tuesday April 30. The carriage roads are still too soft for bicycling or horses at this time.
“The carriage roads of Acadia are the most extensive example of broken-stone roads in the entire United States,” said Superintendent Kevin Schneider. “We are grateful to everyone who takes care of these roads including volunteers, Friends of Acadia, and everyone who respects that the carriage roads are only open for foot traffic at this time.”
Please pay attention when using the carriage roads. There are often ruts and downed trees and crews may be working to clean up the carriage roads for summer use.
