2016 Zion Plein Air Art Invitational Call for Artists

Springdale, UT- Each year two-dozen artists of every medium and style convene in canyon to paint the crimson Navajo sandstone walls of Zion. November 7-13, 2016, Zion National Park and the Zion National Park Foundation will host the 2016 Zion Plein Air Art Invitational. Applications from interested artists will be accepted now through Monday, February 8, 2016.

Lyman Hafen, Executive Director of the Zion National Park Foundation emphasized that “Art has a very firm place in the history of Zion Canyon and in the story that led to it becoming a National Park. Today, artists, donors, sponsors and visitors continue that rich tradition, preserving the wonder that is Zion National Park for future generations, and enhancing the experience of everyone who comes here.”

Over the course of the week‐long event, artists paint in various locations and offer demonstrations for the public, producing pieces for the wet paint sale held at the end of the event. In celebration of the 100th birthday of the National Park Service, this year the Zion Plein Air Invitational will have a centennial theme. In addition to the pieces highlighting the beauty and diversity of Zion National Park, each artist will also submit a special studio piece highlighting one of the other 408 NPS units.

Event proceeds go to the Zion National Park Foundation which supports important projects in the park and the Zion Youth Education Initiative.
