The National Park Service welcomes sculptor David Purcell as the new Artist-in-Residence at Zion National Park. Mr. Purcell, from Baltimore, Maryland, will spend a month using topographical maps, observations, drawings, and photographs to create a series of sculptures inspired by the landforms of Zion National Park.

On Friday, February 25 at 7:00 p.m., Mr. Purcell will present a lecture at the Zion Lodge about his experience as Artist-in-Residence in Zion National Park. He will also give a presentation for Art Insights, the Southern Utah University Department of Art and Design's weekly lecture series, on Thursday, March 3 at 7:00 p.m.

The Artist-in-Residence Program at Zion National Park offers professional artists the opportunity to live and work inside the park, continuing a century-old tradition of artistic expression in Zion Canyon. The program is supported by Zion National Park, in partnership with the Zion Natural History Association and the Southern Utah University College of Performing and Visual Arts.

More information can be found at www.nps.gov/zion. Interested artists may also contact the Artist-in-Residence coordinator by email at Zion_Artist_in_Residence@nps.gov or by phone at 435-772-0184.
