Slip on Scree Slope

April 09, 2016 Posted by: Zion National Park

On August 20, 2015 at about 0930 hours Rangers on a wilderness patrol come across a 76 year old female, who had just fallen and possibly broken her hip. She was attempting to hike the Subway Route from the bottom up and had just started down the steep scree slope when she lost her footing. The rangers reported the incident to Zion Dispatch and requested a SAR team and an EMT. A litter team of 12 was organized to carry the patient out. Due to the steep terrain a short technical raise was needed to get the patient back onto the main trail. She was then carried via litter to the Left Fork Trailhead and transported via the Zion Ambulance to DRMC.
