The first lightning-caused wildfire of 2023 in Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve was discovered Monday, July 24. The 64.5-acre Biederman Fire #192 is 50% active, creeping and backing, with group torching, on a mixed-forest mountaintop north of Biederman Bluff on the Yukon River, five miles northwest of the Kandik-Yukon Rivers confluence. The fire is in monitor status and will be monitored by Alaska Fire Service aircraft. Point source protection strategies will be implemented, if necessary.

Visitors and pilots are cautioned to be aware of wildfire smoke and fire management aircraft, as a high-pressure weather system continues, extending warm, dry, fire-prone conditions.
