Yosemite National Park and Ansel Adams Gallery announce the seventh annual Gateway Expressions Student Art, Photography and Poetry Contest. The Gateway Expressions Student Art and Poetry Contest celebrate the creativity of youth in Yosemite’s gateway communities. The contest is open to all students, grades K-12, who attend school or youth programs within the gateway community school districts of Yosemite National Park, including the communities of Bass Lake, Groveland, Chawanakee, Mammoth, Bishop, Mariposa, Oakhurst, and Sonora, California. Students should submit artwork, photographs and poetry no later than Friday, October 13, 2017.

Artwork or poetry should be original and communicate a connection to Yosemite’s natural or cultural history. Subject matter can focus on wildlife, plants, scenic areas, iconic features, seasonal changes, conservation and protection, or the legacy that Yosemite represents.

“The Gateway Expressions Student Art, Photography and Poetry Contest is a unique program that encourages youth in our community to express themselves and share their love of Yosemite,” stated Acting Superintendent Chip Jenkins. “Art has played an important role in Yosemite National Park and we are proud to support youth in our Gateway Communities.”

Selected student artwork and poetry will be featured in an exhibit at The Ansel Adams Gallery in Yosemite Valley. Students will also be recognized and acknowledged at a special awards ceremony on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the Ansel Adams Gallery. Contest winners will be notified by phone and email.
