News Release Date: October 12, 2026

Current Situation

6,788 acres
73% contained
906 personnel

Caution

Glacier Point Road reopened on Saturday, October 10, at 7 am. Please drive carefully and watch for firefighters working along the road.

Operational Update

Containment on the Dome Fire increased to 73% yesterday as firefighters continued mop‑up and tactical patrol. All crews were flown out of spike camps in the wilderness by helicopter ahead of forecast rain and possible mountain snow.

As mop‑up and patrol operations continue today, firefighters have begun backhauling excess equipment. Approximately 12 miles of hose, along with pumps, portable tanks, generators and fuel cans, will be removed using helicopters, mule trains, and crews.

Weather

Mostly cloudy skies are expected through the day, with periods of light precipitation. Fog and drizzle are likely, with freezing levels between 6,000 and 8,000 feet. High temperatures are likely to be only in the 30s to lower 40s. Southeast winds will be breezy early before easing to light southerly winds by afternoon.

Air Quality and Smoke Outlook

No fire growth and low activity is improving smoke impacts across Yosemite National Park and surrounding communities. Yosemite Valley experienced GOOD to MODERATE smoke impacts again yesterday. Expect smoke impacts in Yosemite Valley to remain GOOD today. Expect overall GOOD smoke impacts continuing across the remainder of this outlook area. MODERATE ozone levels may continue to blow into Yosemite from the San Joaquin Valley in the afternoons. Higher winds and rain is expected to further improve air quality over the outlook area this week.
