Current Situation
6,805 acres
69% contained
926 personnel
Caution
Glacier Point Road reopened on Saturday, October 10, at 7 am. Please drive carefully and watch for firefighters working along the road.
Operational Update
All control lines held during yesterday’s wind event, thanks to several days of steady work by firefighters. Crews conducted tactical patrol and watched for spot fires. Fire activity increased with the wind, but burning was limited to interior areas and did not threaten containment.
Today, firefighters will continue tactical patrol along control lines, mop up, and begin backhauling excess equipment. Mule trains will keep moving supplies and gear in remote sections of the fire area. The forecast calls for mostly cloudy conditions, with periods of rain and possible mountain snow expected tonight through Monday night. Crews have prepared for the weather shift, and progress on the fire has allowed leadership to reduce the number of spike camps in the wilderness.
Weather
Clouds will increase Sunday with partly cloudy conditions in the morning increasing to mostly cloudy in the afternoon. Rain showers are likely Sunday afternoon to evening, with rain and snow showers likely Sunday night through Monday night. Southerly winds are likely to be a bit stronger Sunday, 10-20 mph with gusts 20-35 mph.
