Yosemite National Park and the Ansel Adams Gallery sponsored a Gateway Expressions Student Art and Poetry Contest from Monday, September, 17, 2012 to Friday, October 26, 2012. The contest is a way the park and the Ansel Adams Gallery can celebrate the creativity of youth in the Yosemite gateway communities. Selected student artwork and poetry will be featured in an exhibit at the Ansel Adams Gallery, and students will be acknowledged at a special awards ceremony on Saturday, November 17, 2012.

This is the second year the park has hosted the contest. The park received 140 pieces of unique artwork from around the Yosemite region. Students were encouraged to submit original artwork or poetry that communicated a connection to Yosemite's natural or cultural history. Students submitted a wide range of art and poetry including collages showing Giant Sequoias, pencil sketches of Tunnel View and Glacier Point, and poetry about experiencing the sights and sounds of Yosemite. Additionally, paintings portraying Yosemite Falls and Bridalveil Fall, as well as crayon art depicting wildlife in Yosemite, was also received.

Funding was received from the Yosemite Conservancy to help with the Gateway Expressions Student Art and Poetry Contest.
