White Sands National Monument kicks off its summer Full Moon Night events this Saturday
Alamogordo, NM – White Sands National Monument’s first of six Full Moon Nights begins this Saturday, May 18, 2019. Full Moon Night happens every night of the full moon from May until October. The parks closing time is extended during the Full Moon Night events, and it is a great time to experience this incredibly unique place under the light of the full moon.
As part of the Full Moon Night events, White Sands presents entertainment in the park’s amphitheater. This Saturday night’s program is Astronomy Night at White Sands! – a park ranger-led presentation on the extremes of life here at White Sands and its connection to possible life in the universe – will begin at 8:00 pm in the park’s amphitheater. Following the program, park rangers will have telescopes available to view outstanding astronomical objects in the night sky.
Details about Full Moon Night, including future entertainment schedules, is available online at https://go.nps.gov/FullMoonNight.
Full Moon Night programs are always free, family friendly, and no reservations are needed. However, monument entrance fees do apply.
A special thank you to White Sands’ partner, Western National Parks Association, for their financial support in purchasing telescope equipment used at these popular programs.
