Valid at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, Lassen Volcanic National Park, Crater Lake National Park, and Lava Beds National Monument for twelve months from the date of purchase, for unlimited visits to all four parks. It admits the pass holder and any accompanying persons in a single, private, non-commercial vehicle, or the pass holder and 3 others when entry is by other means (bicycle and foot). This pass covers entrance fees only and is not refundable and/or transferable.

Where to Buy Entrance Passes

  • Interagency passes such as the Annual and Lifetime Senior, Access, Annual and Lifetime Military, and Fourth Grade are NOT available here.
  • Purchase a digital pass on recreation.gov – fast and simple! No waiting in line at a store when you would rather be spending time at the beach or on a trail.
  • Your digital pass is valid for one owner and one vehicle only. Park rangers verify the digital pass by entering the license plate number of your vehicle into a smart phone app or website.

2023 Fee Free Days

Whiskeytown National Recreation Area joins national parks across the nation in waiving the entrance fees on 5 days in 2023. The following dates are entrance fee free:
  • Monday, January 16 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  • Saturday, April 22 First Day of National Park Week
  • Friday, August 4 Great American Outdoors Act Signing Day
  • Saturday, September 23 National Public Lands Day
  • Saturday, November 11 Veterans Day
* All other expanded amenity fees such as camping, etc. still apply.

Access Pass - Free

The Access Pass is a lifetime pass for U.S. citizens or permanent residents with permanent disabilities; documentation is required to obtain it. Acceptable documentation includes: statement by a licensed physician; document issued by Federal agency such as the Veteran's Administration, Social Security Disability Income or Supplemental Security Income; or a document issued by a State agency such as a vocational rehabilitation agency.The pass provides access to, and use of, Federal recreation sites that charge an Entrance or Standard Amenity Fee for a lifetime.The pass admits the passholder and all passengers in a non-commercial vehicle where per-vehicle fees are charged or the pass holder +3 adults for per-person fee areas (children under 16 are admitted free). The pass can be obtained in person at the park or by mailing a completed application form.The Access Pass provides a 50 percent discount on some expanded amenity fees charged for facilities and services such as camping, swimming, boat launch, and specialized interpretive services. The pass is non-transferable and generally does NOT cover or reduce special recreation permit fees or fees charged by concessionaires.The pass waives the standard entrance fee.

 
Lifetime Military and Gold Star Pass

Lifetime Military Pass – Free

A free Lifetime Military Pass is available for Gold Star Families and US military veterans. parks, wildlife refuges, and forests.Who is eligible to get a free Military Lifetime Pass as a veteran?For purposes of this program, a veteran is identified as an individual who has served in the US Armed Forces, including the National Guard and Reserves, and is able to present one of the following forms of identification to get the Interagency Military Lifetime Pass when entering a national park:
  • Unexpired Department of Defense Identification Card (DD Form 2, DD Form 2765, or Next Generation USID replacement)
  • Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC)
  • Veteran ID Card
  • Veterans designation on a state-issued US driver’s license or identification card

Who is eligible to get a free Military Lifetime Pass as a member of a Gold Star Family?

Gold Star Families are next of kin of a member of the US Armed Forces who lost his or her life in a “qualifying situation,” such as a war, an international terrorist attack, or a military operation outside of the United States while serving with the US Armed Forces. Eligibility requirements are in section 3.2 of Department of Defense Instruction 1348.36.

How does a member of a Gold Star Family get a free Military Lifetime Pass?

Before visiting a national park site, Gold Star Family members must download and print a voucher to present to park staff, exchange for an Interagency Military Lifetime Pass, or place on the vehicle dashboard at unstaffed sites (representations of the voucher are prohibited; the physical voucher or pass must be present). By downloading and signing the voucher, Gold Star Family members are self-certifying that they meet the required criteria as identified in sections 3.2 and 3.3 of Department of Defense Instruction 1348.36.Download the Gold Star Family Voucher here: Your Free Pass (nps.gov)Gold Star Family members can obtain a free Military Lifetime Pass online through the USGS Online Store. Annual 4th Grade Pass - Free

Available to US 4th graders (including home-schooled and free-choice learners 10 years of age) with a valid Every Kid in a Park paper pass. Valid for the duration of the 4th grade school year through the following summer (September-August).The pass admits the passholder and all passengers in a non-commercial vehicle where per-vehicle fees are charged or the pass holder +3 adults for per-person fee areas (children under 16 are admitted free).The pass does not cover other recreation fees such as campground feesThe pass waives the standard entrance fee


How to get your pass

Paper passes can be obtained by visiting the Every Kid in a Park website and printing a temporary paper pass.Bring the paper pass to the Whiskeytown Visitor center and exchange in-person for a 4th grade pass. The 4th grader needs to be present. Digital version of the paper pass (such as on smart phones or tablets) will not be accepted to exchange for an Annual 4th Grade Pass.The pass is non-transferable.

Cost $55 (U.S. Dollars)
Valid at Whiskeytown NRA, Lassen Volcanic NP, Crater Lake NP, and Lava Beds National Monument for twelve months from the date of purchase, for unlimited visits to all four parks. It admits the purchaser and any accompanying persons in a single, private, non-commercial vehicle, or the purchaser and accompanying immediate family (spouse, children, parents) when entry is by other means (bus, bicycle, and foot).

National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass

This pass, available to the general public, provides access to, and use of, Federal recreation sites that charge an Entrance or Standard Amenity Fee - for a year - beginning from the date of sale. The pass admits the pass holder and passengers in a non-commercial vehicle at per vehicle fee areas and pass holder + 3 adults, not to exceed 4 adults, at per person fee areas (children under 16 are admitted free). The pass can only be obtained in person at the visitor center, or by calling 1-888-ASK USGS, Ext. 1, or via Internet at https://store.usgs.gov/pass

The pass admits the pass holder and passengers in a non-commercial vehicle at per vehicle fee areas and pass holder + 3 adults, not to exceed 4 adults, at per person fee areas (children under 16 are admitted free). The pass can only be obtained in person at the visitors center.

The Senior Pass provides a 50 percent discount on some Expanded Amenity Fees charged for facilities and services such as camping, swimming, boat launch, and specialized interpretive services. In some cases where Expanded Amenity Fees are charged, only the pass holder will be given the 50 percent price reduction. The pass is non-transferable and generally does NOT cover or reduce special recreation permit fees or fees charged by concessionaires.

Academic Entrance Fee Wavier

Groups from bona fide educational institutions are eligible for an entrance fee waiver if they are coming to study park resources. Requests should be sent at least 2 weeks in advance of visit using the form below.
