In honor of National Park System week which officially begins Saturday, Whiskeytown National Recreation Area is delighted to announce the following community programs and park operational updates...

Brandy Creek Beach Reopens for the Summer Season on Friday, April 19. Open for walk-in beachgoing year-round, the parking lots and restrooms will open for the 2024 summer season Friday morning. 

Entrance Passes are Not Required on Saturday, April 20. Stop by the Visitor Center to grab a park brochure and peruse the bookstore (the VC is open 9am to 5pm daily), but it is a Fee Free Day courtesy of the first day of National Park System Week. With 90% of the national recreation area reopened since the 2018 megafire, come explore your Whiskeytown!

Explore the Redding Earth Day Festival on Saturday, April 20. Located at Caldwell Park and taking place between 11am and 4pm, this free community event is hosted by Shasta Environmental Alliance and will include live music, conservation vendors, and several environmentally themed arts and crafts activities. Be sure and stop by Whiskeytown's booth.

Volunteer for Earth Day PULL (Pick Up Lake Litter) on Sunday, April 21. Help make your favorite lakeshore cleaner and greener during this public volunteer event. Register here for this 9am to noon event at Oak Bottom Beach.

Listen to Whiskeytown on Enjoy Exceptional Living KKRN 88.5 FM Radio on Monday, April 22 or Saturday, April 27. Tune in at 8am on April 22 or 11am on April 27 for a radio interview with Josh Hoines and Acting Superintendent and Administrative Officer Laura Ostmann as they discuss all things Whiskeytown - park history, how to volunteer, how to apply for a job, kayak and paddleboard programs this summer, waterfalls, accessibility, and more!

Take Your Littles to Anderson Library Storytime & Crafts on Thursday, April 25. At 3:30 pm, youth and families are invited to join Whiskeytown Park Rangers for a reading of the children's book Forest Bright, Forest Night, followed by a nature-themed craft project. With summer just around the corner, the first 50 kids will get a free beach towel courtesy of First 5 Shasta. 

Discover California Gold Rush History at Whiskeytown and Try Your Luck at Gold Panning on Sunday, April 28. Join an Interpretive Park Ranger at 10am for a walking tour of Tower House Historic District. Learn about the people who called this small community home, explore different types of mining and then go gold panning. Meet the ranger at the historic district's trailhead off of Highway 299.

National Park System Week is an annual April event serving as a nine-day celebration of everything "parks."
