Grab your Blanket, Lawn Chair and Floating Candle Luminary!

On the evening of August 26th, 2017, the National Park Service invites your family to experience music in the great outdoors on Brandy Creek Beach at the Symphony on the Beach. The celebration will begin at 7:00 p.m. with a Wintu blessing given by James Hayward (Redding Rancheria), food vendors, and activities for kids. At 8:00 p.m., the Shasta Symphony will begin its performance by conductor Dr. Dwayne Corbin, featuring vocalist JennyRebecca Winans. This is a free event and open to the public.

Visitors will be able to launch their own personalized floating candle luminary from Brandy Creek Beach beginning at 7:30 p.m. For a small donation, the Friends of Whiskeytown will supply a small disc of wood that serves as the floating platform for the white paper bag with a small votive candle inside (weather permitting). Each bag includes an area to write your personal message. Donations support park programs and projects. Kayak volunteers will manage the drifting candle luminaries within the Brandy Creek swim area.

In addition, park rangers will have tables set up at the beach for both children and adults to enjoy an art activity leading up to the event. Once the symphony begins, the tables will be available for public use during the event.

The Whiskeytown and Redding Yacht Clubs have invited boat owners to light their mast with white lights and anchor off Brandy Creek Beach just outside the swim area during the performance. The U.S. Coast Guard Flotilla 39 will be on hand to monitor the nighttime boat activities on Whiskeytown Lake.

Over 3,000 people attended last year’s Symphony on the Beach. This event is being sponsored by the Shasta College Fund, Redding Bank of Commerce, Cornerstone Bank, the McConnell Foundation, Cosco.net, KIXE Public TV, Jefferson Public Radio and the Friends of Whiskeytown. Shuttle vans will take people from Brandy Creek Marina over to Brandy Creek Beach from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and from 9:00 – 10:00 p.m. to accommodate overflow parking, or you can walk via the short trail connecting the two areas.

Please bring water, lawn chairs, and a flash light or head lamp for when it gets dark. For further information, please feel free to call the park Superintendent at (530) 242-3410, or the park Public Information Officer at (530) 242-3454. Emails can be sent to e-mail us or Matthew_Switzer@nps.gov with “Symphony on the Beach!” as the subject.
