Superintendent Jim F. Milestone has announced that Whiskeytown National Recreation Area will be accepting applications for the summer youth job program. Anyone between the ages of 15 and 18 years of age may apply for a summer job. Applications may be obtained at career counseling offices at Shasta, Foothill, Enterprise, West Valley, Central Valley or Anderson High Schools and at Whiskeytown Headquarters Building on Kennedy Memorial Drive beginning April 18, 2011.
Applications must be received by May 13, 2011, in order to be considered. This year there will be six positions available. The eight-week program will begin on June 13, 2011 and end on August 5, 2011. Participants will earn $8.00 per hour. Work is mostly outdoors and will involve performing trail maintenance, bridge repairs, fence building, special projects and lakeshore cleanup. Park Superintendent Milestone stated, “This is a great way for teenagers to learn about work ethics, and working outdoors in conservation in a National Park setting.” This is the 28th year of the YCC program at Whiskeytown.
Information concerning the YCC program may be obtained by calling Wayne Pero at 530-242-3423. For more information about Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, visit our website at https://www.nps.gov/whis.
