A public scoping meeting will be held on July 23, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. to assist the National Park Service in the planning of a proposed project to undertake landscape restoration in the Paige Boulder watershed. The meeting will be held in the Community Room of Redding City Hall.

The National Park Service is preparing a Paige Boulder Watershed Restoration Plan and Environmental Assessment for restoring areas disturbed by historic activities such as logging, and restoring streams. The purpose for watershed restoration is to reduce chronic and catastrophic sedimentation to lower Clear Creek Critical Habitat for salmon and steelhead.Erosion and sediments from the Paige Boulder watershed negatively impacts spawning habitat and restoration efforts in lower Clear Creek.Proposed is removing relic logging features and restoring the stream crossing along these disturbed areas.Sections of two trails could be impacted from watershed restoration including Salt Gulch and Kanaka Peak. The proposed work will significantly reduce future sedimentation from the most erosive portions of Paige Boulder watershed to lower Clear Creek. The National Park Service would like to hear your thoughts about the purposed restoration activities by attending the meeting and/or commenting on the draft alternatives.

The Redding City Hall Community Room is located at 777 Cypress Avenue in Redding, California. From Interstate 5, exit on Cypress Avenue west and travel approximately 1 mile to City Hall. The Community Room is located across the breezeway on the left side of the main entrance to City Hall.

All interested individuals and agencies are encouraged to review potential alternatives and provide comments either at this meeting, online at: , or by mail to Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, Attn: Paige Boulder Watershed Restoration Plan, P.O. Box 188, Whiskeytown, CA 96095-0188.
