Lichen Not Fungus and Algae Photo Exhibit

Park guests will have the unique opportunity to ‘get up close and personal’ with lichens.  Ken De Camp, nature photographer and retired Forest Service employee will have on display a collection of images he has spent decades in the North State photographing.  The exhibit will be on display at the Whiskeytown Visitor Center beginning June 12^th through July 16^th. 

The Friends of Whiskeytown are sponsoring an opening reception along with this exhibit.  The public is invited to meet the artist on Friday, June 12^th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the Visitor Center. 

De Camp’s collection of images will provide viewers an opportunity to appreciate this often overlooked organism and marvel at the abstract features they produce.“As prevalent as lichen are most people pass them by without as much as a glance…even people who have spent a lifetime in the woods rarely take notice. But down through human history lichens have played an important part in our survival, used for everything from food and insulation to dye and poisons, to name but a few” stated De Camp.

The Whiskeytown Visitor Center is located on the corner of Highway 299 and Kennedy Memorial Drive and is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For more information call the Visitor Center at [phone] which is open daily from 9:00 am to 6:00 p.m.
