Free Painting on Location Workshop at Whiskeytown

The public is invited to participate in a plein air painting (outdoor painting) workshop on Saturday, May 19th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. Artist Lynne Cunningham, a finalist in Whiskeytown’s Artist-in-Residence Program, will teach the workshop. Cunningham, who resides in Davis, CA, has a strong background in art creation, exhibition and instruction. Often painting in a plein air style she feels it infuses her artwork with freshness and real-life experience. She has participated in many group and solo exhibitions of her work. Cunningham said, “A few of her goals for the workshop are to help to make participants comfortable painting outdoors, introduce tools and methods to compose paintings outdoors, and to discuss basics of outdoor painting from concept to the completion of a piece”. Plein air painter Sibyl Sides Johnson of Carmel, California will assist her in the workshop.

This workshop will be a wonderful opportunity for beginning painters to try the plein air technique of painting. Skilled artists are also invited to participate and take advantage of the opportunity for them to liaison and share ideas with other professional artists from outside the area.
