Artist’s Drawing Workshops with Artist-in-Residence

Whiskeytown National Recreation Area is pleased to announce a series of drawing workshops for people of all ages and abilities led by Artist-in-Residence James Kuiper.Join Mr. Kuiper at various park locations, and learn to see Whiskeytown in new ways through art.Art supplies will be provided for the first 8 participants.If you have your own supplies, please bring them.Workshops will be held:

Saturday, July 19 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Brandy Creek Beach (near the beach store).

Monday, July 21 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Oak Bottom Beach.

Wednesday, July 23 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the Camden House in the Tower House Historic District.

Kuiper, originally a midwesterner from Michigan, has lived and worked in a number of diverse regions from Alaska to Texas and now in California where he is Professor of Art at California State University, Chico. He exhibits internationally, particularly in Spain and Brazil, and nationally, primarily on the West Coast.

Whiskeytown National Recreation Area's Artist in Residence Program invites professional artists to spend quality time exploring the natural and cultural landscapes of the park. Through the assistance of the Friends of Whiskeytown and the National Park Service, the artists usually produce several paintings during their visit and donate one of their works to the park's art collection.

″ Brandy Creek Beach is located off of J.F. Kennedy Memorial Drive, approximately 5 miles from the visitor center on Highway 299.″ Oak Bottom Beach is located approximately 12 miles from Redding along Highway 299W.Turn at the Oak Bottom Sign and go straight towards the swim beach. ″ The Tower House Historic District is located 7 ½ miles west of the Whiskeytown visitor center, on Highway 299W.Visitors can park at the Tower House Historic District parking lot.Walk the paved trail from the kiosk, across the footbridge, to the Camden House.″ These events are free to attend, however vehicles must still display a valid day-use pass.
