Artist-in-Residence Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Am I able to backcountry camp? No. Backcountry camping (camping away from designated campgrounds) remains temporarily banned due to hazards brought about by the Carr Fire.
  2. Do Artists-in-Residences do tent or RV camping? Both! An RV can be accommodated at Brandy Creek RV Campground. If tent camping, the campground will be Peltier Bridge Primitive Campground.
  3. Are pets allowed? Yes. Pets are required to be on leash at all times and you must pick up after your pet. Please dispose of pet waste in trash receptacles.
  4. Can someone else camp with me? Yes.
  5. Is there a deadline for completing the presentation? Does the location matter? The presentation is ideally conducted during the residency but it may be completed up to two months afterwards. Virtual presentation are also an option.
  6. How flexible are the dates that I choose? Whiskeytown will work with selected artists as much as possible to give them their ideal residency dates.
  7. What kind of accommodations for disabilities are available? Whiskeytown believes strongly in accessibility. For a listing of accessible features in the park, visit the park’s accessibility webpage.
  8. If I produce more than one work, how is the work shared? Whiskeytown must be given the right to use digital images of at least one piece of work from each artist. Note that the artist still has reproduction and sales rights to the work. If more than one work is produced, Whiskeytown would love the right to use digital images of these works for interpretation and education purposes. However, this is not required.
  9. Are there any other restrictions on who can apply? Artists must be at least 18 years of age unless accompanied by their legal guardian.
  10. Will artists have access to any storage or interior space to work or keep materials? There is some interior space in the park to store and safeguard materials. A workspace will be available for use and this work space involves a rectangular wooden table in a communal office environment.
